And The Winner Is...

One of the places you can buy my images is RedBubble and one of the items I am offering right now is a 2009 calendar.

Since this was my first time creating one of these, I ordered a couple of them: one for myself and one to give away or sell.

After tossing around several ideas, I finally decided to hang my copy on the inside of my front door and the first person who visited my home and asked about it, would receive the second one. Christmas came and went and no one said a thing.

But – I was just speaking with my older daughter and she said “Mum, what’s the story with that calendar I saw at your house?” Seems she didn’t ask that day since everyone was into taking home leftovers mode and it was rather chaotic. However, since she is the first to ask about it, she wins the second copy! Go Jenn!!

Hope you all enjoyed your “holidaze” thus far – just one more to go.

Peace, Judi

Holiday Surprise

Happy Boxing Day to those who celebrate it. Please feel free to post in my comments to explain what Boxing Day is all about as I have no idea.

I do have an idea about something else, however. This image, which is available in my Etsy shop as a handmade card, was also uploaded to Yankee Magazine's site to share with others. (You can use it to send an ecard if you wish.)

I received a weekly email from Yankee on 12/23, and much to my surprise, they had chosen to include my photo, with credits, as part of the mailing. Merry Christmas and Happy Dance!

I hope your holidays were as joyous and 2009 will be your best year ever.

Peace, Judi

POE Secret Santa

Happy Wednesday!

You may be aware that I am a member of the Photographers of Etsy Street Team (POE). The team admin, Bill of House of Six Cats, recently organized a Secret Santa swap between team members - thank you, Bill!

My teammate to swap with is Angela of HolgaGirl. The photo I chose is the charming At home once again. I can't wait for it to arrive.

The one Angela picked from my offerings is By The Door.

May your Santa be good to you this year! Peace, Judi

Trees With Perspective

Sometimes it takes months for me to decide that a shot is worth sharing. This one was taken just after a storm last December (and is now availabe in my shops).

My sister and I drove to Maine on New Year's Eve, 2007, and found this peaceful scene in York. I hope some of this tranquility will be yours during this hectic holiday season.

Peace, Judi

Little Dents Online Presentation

Please go here to see a presentation based on my prior blog entries on helping to save money and the planet by making "Little Dents".

I didn't have the December bill for the November usage at the time the presentation was made, but I do now. 2008 December kwh usage - 137, electric charges - $34.85. This represents 128 less kwh than the 2007 December bill, and $16.82 savings for the same month. The 2008 total of 2530 kwh/$555.08 represents a savings of 525 kwh/$66.94. Not bad considering I didn't start this energy savings plan until August.

I hope this has helped you to make even the smallest change in your usage, even if just to shut lights off in a room when you leave it or put in compact fluorescent bulbs. Every little dent will help.

Day 086 - 11/29/2008 Blue Morpho

I recently visited the Tucson Botanical Gardens. Each winter they have an indoor live tropical butterly exhibit - this year, at least, called Butterfly Magic at the Gardens.

I managed to capture many amazing shots of the beautiful butterflies. This however, a Blue Morpho, sitting still with its wings open is an extremely rare sight. Either it had just emerged and was waiting for its wings to dry or it was near the end of its life; sadly I suspect the latter due to the tattered spots on the wings.

If you're Tucson between now and March 31, 2009, please consider a visit to this beautiful and educational exhibit and the gardens in general - you won't be disappointed!

Peace,
Judi

Mountain View

During a recent trip to Tucson, AZ, to visit my younger daughter, I had time to do a few photo shoots while she was at work, this one was on 11/24 when I visited the Saguaro National Park West.

This park also has an eastern area, on the other side of the city of Tucson. In both regions, the saguaro are protected; they only grow naturally in this part of the world.

I'm home now, but will post a few more images from my trip in the coming days.

Peace, Judi
